I recently wrapped up another 30-day yoga empowerment series with Travis Eliott. This time spread over nearly 45 days due to several travel breaks. And as I took my time, I could not resist to take notes and share some pearls of wisdom which were dropped across the online classes.
Here are four gems that I plucked from the journey, hoping they’ll sprinkle a little magic into your day as we embark on another year filled with twists, turns, and unexpected detours.
🌿 LIFE: A Toast to Gratitude
Rumi’s words hit home on the final day of the series; “Gratitude is wine for the soul. So go on. Get drunk.” It is often easy to feel resentment but it takes courage to show appreciation. I challenge myself often to turn around emotions; for example by telling myself to “love what you hate”. And by doing this I have succeeded regularly in putting a positive spin on what otherwise could have been a negative, and often draining energy. Ps. I obviously don’t succeed all the time but am more and more aware.
🎓 PROGRESS: Shifting Perspectives, and a story of two wolves
Henry Ford’s words really got me thinking: “Whether you think you can or think you can’t – either way you are right.” It’s all about mindset! My recent coaching journey has been about supporting people to flip the script, by focusing on what is positive and possible. On day 28 Travis tells a story of two wolves in a fierce battle. One egocentric and selfish. One giving and considerate. You can probably guess which one wins, but maybe not why… Which wolf do you feed?
💌 MESSAGE: Lightening the Load. Marie Kondo your life
Day 3 provided another wisdom provided through Jay Shetty (an author and life coach): “What doesn’t serve you, doesn’t deserve you.” It’s time to Marie Kondo our lives! Letting go of what no longer serves us is the first step towards lightening our load and living a little easier. Take some stones out your backpack as you climb the mountain.
🚀 FUTURE: Paving the Path Forward. Turn one day, into day one
Shao Lin was quoted on day 19 with a simple truth: “You are because of what you did. You will be of what you do.” It’s a reminder that every moment is a chance to shape our destiny, to turn ‘someday’ into ‘today’. To turn ‘one day’ into ‘day one’. Let’s roll up our sleeves and get on with it, shall we?
Day 1: On day 1 the series starts with a class called; ‘Intention’. Kicking off with MLK’s guidance to “Take the first step in faith” followed by the guiding principle that “Energy flows, Where the Focus goes”. A golden treat to this 30 yoga series is to walk through life with purpose, wisdom and meaning. And strive to find health, joy and peace.
It sounds so simple. And as often it is, it is not. But if you have time to read and think about this, you can already count yourself lucky – because the majority of people do not have this luxury. And rest assured by standing still now, you have probably already taken the first step. Congrats. Count yourself lucky.
Let me know where you find purpose, wisdom and meaning? And how do you keep your sanity through the rumble and jungle of daily life… Namaste!
